The Vor'cha Class attack cruiser was one of the largest and most powerful mainstays of the Klingon Defense Forces during the mid to late 24th century. As such, many saw action in the Dominion War.

The Vor'cha Class attack cruiser first appeared prior to 2367. Initially, limited to the disposal of the Klingon Chancellor and various other ranking officials, the class would eventually become fully integrated into the Klingon Imperial Fleet over the next five years.

For a time, one even served as the flagship of the Imperial Fleet, until the Negh'Var Class battleship was introduced in 2371.

At least one Vor'cha class entered the Gamma Quadrant through the Bajoran wormhole.

Despite the fact the class was no longer the flagship of the Imperial Fleet, they maintained a strong presence during both the Klingon-Cardassian War and the second Federation-Klingon War of 2372-2373. They were used during the First Battle of Deep Space 9 and, later that year, several were used to deploy a minefield around Bajoran space.

The class later served as capital ships during the Dominion War, beginning in 2374. They saw action during Operation Return, the First Battle of Chin'toka and Second Battle of Chin'toka and the final showdown of the conflict, the Battle of Cardassia.

Technical Data

The Vor'cha Class was one of the more powerful ships in the Klingon arsenal. Comparable in size to the Federation Excelsior Class starship or the Cardassian Galor Class cruiser, it was also one of the largest, carrying a formidable armament and demonstrating great maneuverability considering their relative size.

Physical Arrangement

The outboard plan of the Vor'cha design incorporates the same basic shape and classic avian design lineage dating back over two hundred years to the Raptor Class scout, and to a lesser degree the D5 class Klingon battle cruiser.

The bridge module is separated from the main body by a thin neck that flares out into the wings, which contain the warp nacelles.

The secondary hull is composed of duranium alloy.

Storage Levels & Cargo Bays

The Vor'cha Class has three cargo bays, all of which are located in the dorsal tower structure to the stern of the ship. As these decks are located above the main bridge, they are designated as Storage Levels A-D in order to preserve Starfleet’s tradition that the main bridge be located on deck one.

The entire structure may be regarded as the main storage unit of the Vor'cha Class as most of its functional space is devoted to equipment and cargo storage. Spread between the four decks are three cargo bays and numerous storage lockers, all interconnected by a network of corridors and crawl-spaces. The ships turbolift network serves the all four storage levels with four primary turboshafts (8-11) giving access to these decks.

Cargo Bay 1, or the Main Cargo Bay, is the largest of the three and is a total of 3 decks tall with large space doors facing to astern. The majority of the space is open-plan with some storage-shelves organised around the perimeter of the bay. There are also storage spaces for the equipment used to move cargo around the bay such as Anti-Gravity units (AGUs) and Mobile Tractor Beam Units (MTBUs). Though primary loading/unloading of the cargo bay is done by use of the space doors while docked at a starbase or support facility, activities may require the use of transporters, in which case the bay may be serviced by the cargo transporters of cargo bays 2 & 3.

Cargo Bays 2 & 3 are located forward of the main cargo bay to the port and starboard, respectively. Being only two decks in height, they have a much smaller storage capacity and possess far smaller space doors than those of Cargo Bay 1. For this reason, these cargo bays are equipped with two Cargo Transporters for moving cargo in and out of the facilities. Very few pieces of cargo bay equipment are stored in these bays as they are stored in adjacent storage lockers.

Additional storage facilities are present throughout storage levels A-C, designated as ‘Storage Lockers’. These are much smaller spaces, primarily designed for the storage of ship’s equipment and supplies. They are accessed via a network of large corridors in these decks, which connect all three cargo bays. Larger items of cargo can be transported into the lockers using cargo transporters.

Some storage lockers have a specialised purpose and are adapted accordingly. Though all units are capable of extensive environmental control, six are dedicated cyrostorage units (CSU 1-6) specifically designed to hold temperature-sensitive material.

There are an additional four units designated as Bio-Hazardous Materials Lockers (MED-BHML 1-4) which have been specifically fitted to conform to Starfleet Medical Bio-Hazardous Material Protocol.

Two lockers adjacent to Cargo Bays 2 & 3 are dedicated cargo equipment lockers and contain all equipment required for cargo manipulation and inspection, including multiple AGU’s and MTBU’s.

Tactical Systems

Heavily armed, Vor'cha's are mounted with a heavy forward disruptor cannon and numerous secondary disruptor beam emitters.

Cloaking Device

These vessels also have incorporated, like all Klingon starships of the time, the ever-present cloaking device, which protect them from detection in most evasive situations.
