Family history
Trial Martin was raised on Earth, on the continent known as North America.
Her, and her twin brother, Chris Martin, were chiefly raised by her father, as her mother was always away from home.
Because of the amount her mother was kept away from home, due to serving in Star Fleet, Trial's father did not support Trial's ambition to enlist at the Academy.
When her mother went missing in action on a planet near the Badlands, Trials father further expressed his disapproval of Trial's career choice, fearing the same would happen to her.
Christopher Martin, Trial's brother, eventually enlisted in Star Fleet as well, shortly before their mother dissapeared. He was serving under Captain Martin, on the USS Juno, when she dissapeared.
Just short of six months after the dissapearance of her mother, Trial (then Lieutenant Junior Grade aboard the USS Andromeda, and Chief Engineer) married her crew mate Lieutenant Junior Grade Will Rogers, the Operations officer of the USS Andromeda.
Nearly a year later, three amazing events took place right after each other.
Amazingly, Captain Katherine Martin was found, half alive, but alive non-the-less, providing a sigh of relife amongst her family, and a chance to re-forge the relationship with her father that had fallen appart since her mothers dissapearance.
Shortly afterwards, a strange series of events occured that led to the birth of Rachel Katherine Rogers, to Will, not Trial. No less than a month later, Trial received word that Will had been killed in a freak incident involving a pit and starving Tribbles.
Trial arranged for her "daughter" (a child who was not truely normal, and definatly not human) to be sent to live with Trial's parents, on Earth.
On a month long shore leave, Trial finally met her daughter face-to-face.
Rachel had been born because of an unknown substance that had been injected into Will's body, by an intruder on his ship.
The result was a strange looking child, with nearly reptilian features, and spikes where there should have been hair. The child also grew at an amazingly fast rate, when a human child would have been only learning their first words, Rachel was already in the first grade at school.
Rachel, however, was a very unhappy child, having been teased by her classmates at school for her unusual appearance, and Trial imediatly withdrew her from the school she had been attending. Instead, she entered her in a special school for the children of Star Fleet officers, where there was such a diverse school population, Rachel's unusual appearance went unnoticed.
When Trial returned to Earth on a Leave of Abscence, after being the Executive officer of the Andromeda for several months, Rachel was now the equivilant of a human 7 year old, but her extraordinary growth rate seemed to have slowed to that of a human child.
While Trial taught part time at Star Fleet Academy, she spent most of her time in her daughters company, and with her own parents as well.
Upon Trial's re-assigning to the USS Vesuvius, she decided to take Rachel with her, wondering how she would feel about being taken away from her fellow students. Rachel had no obvious objections however, and seemed eager to follow her mother to the stars for whatever adventures lay there.

Education
As a youth, Trial attended the Starr Pacific Academy, near Vancouver on the North American continent of Earth. There she studied electronics, and took an interest in psychology.
When she entered Star Fleet Academy, she chose to major in Engineering (which enabled her to go directly to the USS Andromeda as an engineering officer after graduation), but also sub-majored in psychology, which later landed her a position as Ships Counselor aboard the USS Vesuvius after she left the USS Andromeda.
