Zar's family has played a great part in the Federation's early 24th century, by becoming elected to the Federation Council, and then serving as Ambassador to Bolarus IX. Zar's mother Nel was elected to the Federation Council in 2305 and remained in that position for nearly 60 years. In 2359 she became an Ambassador to Bolarus IX were she continues to serve in that position.

Zar's father Zarl has served within Starfleet for more than 60 years finially becoming promoted to Admiral and command of the 4th fleet deployed along the Cardassian boarder.
