Family history
Zal comes from a family that values knowledge very highly. His father is a civil engineer on Bolarus and his mother is a doctor at the University of Bolarus School of Medicine. His parents were so busy working that they were rarely home, so Zal had to take an active role in raising his younger siblings. He is still very close to his brothers and sister, but his relationship with his parents is strained.
Education
Despite rarely being home, Zal's parents still gave him a love of learning at a very young age. He excelled in all of his subjects in primary and secondary school and even took summer courses at the University of Bolarus as he got older. Zal was unsure of what he wanted to major in when he arrived at Starfleet Academy, but he eventually decided to double major in Science and Engineering.
